Me and Sally Albright

In the summer of 1989, not too long before I left home to go to college, a friend and I went to see "When Harry Met Sally."  I loved everything about this movie when I first saw it and it has continued to be a favorite of mine over the years.  There are a plethora of memorable lines from this movie ("I'll have what she's having" and "on the side is a very big thing for you" and "men and women can't be friends because the sex part always gets in the way") but the ones I've been thinking about for the last few days are Sally lamenting the fact that she's going to be forty  - "someday".

Sally: " And I'm going to be forty."
Harry: "When?"
Sally: "Someday."
Harry:  "In eight years."
Sally: " But it's there.  It's just sitting there,
like this big dead end."

Forty.  Good grief  how did "someday" get here so fast? My mother used to say that having birthdays was better than the alternative, but quite honestly telling myself  "better forty than dead" isn't the happy cheery thought I need right now.  Of course that's probably not exactly what she meant, that's just always how I took it.  As of today I have a month left to enjoy being in my thirties and tease Joel mercilessly for being so much older than me. I plan to make the most of it.
